Espresso Martini with a Viennese Twist
Recipe by Julius Meinl
Espresso, vodka, coffee liqueur, and a velvety foam head: The Espresso Martini has long since evolved from a trendy drink into a bar classic. In Vienna, where coffee house culture is part of everyday life, it fits in particularly well. For the Kaffeesiederball 2027, it is even getting its own porcelain cup: Julius Meinl and Augarten Wien designed it together, with the design chosen via an Austria-wide vote. For home, given the strictly limited custom edition, a well-chilled cocktail glass will likely do just fine. This variation with Irish cream liqueur tastes particularly creamy.
Preparation
- 1
Place a cocktail glass in the freezer for a few minutes.
- 2
Fill a shaker with ice cubes. Add cream liqueur, coffee liqueur, and vodka. Pour in the freshly brewed espresso last.
- 3
Close the shaker tightly and shake vigorously for 15 to 20 seconds until the drink has a silky consistency.
- 4
Strain the cocktail through a bar strainer into the chilled glass.
- 5
Place three coffee beans on top of the foam and serve immediately.
The espresso should really be freshly brewed, as its crema creates the fine foam. By the way, the three beans aren't just decoration: traditionally, they stand for health, wealth, and happiness.
